Thaphae Gate
Tha
Phae Gate is Chiangmai’s main entrance to the old walled city,
served as an entrance through the original, 2-kilometer in
perimeter, city wall built by King Mengrai. This wall is still
almost completely intact. Officials reconstructed Tapae Gate in the
1980s to display its original form. Most tours of the city begin at
this point. Enter the gate into the city and be charmed by its many
small pathways and unique feel. This area contains many restaurants,
coffee shops, and internet cafes that are well frequented by those
visiting Chiangmai for long periods of time.
